Rumors of a third movie installment of the Ghostbusters have been circulating for years, now comes word it could actually happen! IMDB lists it as 2012 with Ivan Reitman returning as the director. No doubt more news and changes to come.

One of the most terrifying movies of my childhood is being remade. It looks pretty good. I wish movie trailers did not show you so much these days!

Footloose – In Need Of New Dance Partners
You can now breathe a sigh of relief, it looks like we don’t have to worry about this 80’s classic being remade with two left feet. It’s been announced that the new Footloose has been taken off of Paramount’s production schedule. This following the loss of the director, Kenny Ortega and the earlier set back of Zac Efron turning down the Kevin Bacon role for fear of being typecast, ha!

National Lampoon’s Vacation – Have Station Wagon Will Travel
New Line is working on a “reboot” of the series with a story line focusing on Rusty. This time around it will loose the National Lampoon’s credit and is said to be more of a “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” style cross country journey with Rusty taking his family to Wally World before it closes forever. The film will be written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

No word on if Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo will reprise their roles as grandparents.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas – Renovations at the Chicken Ranch
News is Universal has signed writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (The Ugly Truth, The House Bunny) to write an update of the musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas which was based on the 1978 Broadway musical of the same name. The new version will also be a musical but no indication has been given if any of the original songs will appear. We can only hope for a cameo by Dolly Parton and her cash cow of a song, “I will always love you.”

For the last couple of years the AFI Silver Theatre located in Silver Spring, MD has put on a celebration of 1980′s cinema. I’ve seen some fun things and seeing them for the first time on the big screen is worth it! Recently saw Ghostbusters and the original Nightmare on Elm Street.

Highly recommend checking it out. Runs through September 2009.

AFI Silver Theatre Awesome 80′s Film Festival

One of the stranger movie merchandisings of the late 1980′s. Police Academy: The Series was an animated Saturday morning cartoon. I guess parents did not mind it was based on an R rated movie?! Pictured here is a coloring book I have from Golden Books, 1989. The story is all about stolen doughnuts, of course!

I’m not really sure why the felt the need to reenact scenes from the movie and them show the scene they just reenacted but anyway it’s a hot 80′s song!

I watched one of my favorite 80′s movies this weekend, Mannequin! It does not get much better than Andrew McCarthy, James Spader and Estelle Getty! Of course Andrew and James have been in several of my favorite 80′s movies. I just happen to have the 45 of the main song for this movie too! The price on the back is $1.93…so $0.99 on itunes is a good price me thinks!
